We’re looking for a Lead Data Engineer to join us at DataBees AB

We are looking for an experienced Lead Data Engineer who wants to take ownership of data solutions end-to-end and lead both technology and people in close collaboration with our customers.

This is a key role where you will combine hands-on data engineering, architecture responsibility, and technical leadership in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.

About the role:

As a Lead Data Engineer at DataBees, you will be responsible for shaping and delivering modern data platforms together with our customers. You will work close to the business, translating complex requirements into scalable, secure, and high-quality data solutions.

You will act as a technical leader in customer teams, guiding other data engineers, setting standards, and ensuring best practices across the full data lifecycle. The role includes both strategic work and hands-on implementation.

You will be part of DataBees’ data engineering community while working in cross-functional teams consisting of business stakeholders, product owners, analysts, and IT specialists.

What you'll be doing:

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of tools, platforms, and ways of working
  • Lead the design and implementation of end-to-end data architectures (Data Lake / Lakehouse / Data Platforms)
  • Own and evolve data pipelines (ETL / ELT) for batch and streaming use cases
  • Ensure data quality, reliability, performance, and scalability
  • Define and maintain data engineering standards, patterns, and best practices
  • Drive automation using CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code
  • Act as a technical advisor towards customers and stakeholders
  • Mentor and guide other data engineers in the team
  • Review code, designs, and solutions to ensure high quality

Required experience & skills  

  • 5–10 years of experience in Data Engineering
  • Strong hands-on experience with Python and advanced SQL
  • Experience designing and building modern data platforms at scale
  • Solid understanding of data modeling (e.g. Kimball, Data Vault)
  • Experience with cloud-based data warehouses and analytics platforms like Snowflake
  • Deep experience in at least one major cloud platform:
    • Azure (Databricks, Data Factory, Synapse, Data Lake), or
    • AWS (Glue, EMR, Redshift, S3), or
    • GCP (BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub)

  • Experience with CI/CD, Git, and automation
  • Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform, Bicep, or CloudFormation)
  • Experience working in agile, cross-functional teams
  • Ability to communicate complex topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Fluent written and spoken Swedish (mandatory)
  • Good professional English

Meriting (Nice to have):

  • Experience with streaming technologies (Kafka, Event Hubs, Kinesis)
  • Experience with Databricks and Lakehouse architecture
  • Data governance, lineage, or GDPR-focused solutions
  • Experience in consulting or customer-facing roles
  • Cloud or data certifications (Azure, AWS, GCP)
